  2. They are characterized by having chitin in their cell wall and multicellular fungi are composed of tiny hair-like cells called hyphae.

Basidiomycota

  1. It is a division in the kingdom of fungi that is characterized by having septated filamentous hyphae.
  2. They have a specialized club-like organ called basidia which has spores that act as a vegetative source for reproduction.
  3. The spores produced are called basidiospores.

Jelly fungi

  1. The spore-bearing basidia look like jelly, hence the name jelly fungi. The fruiting body appears gelatinous and rubbery.
  2. These are found throughout the world in different forms, shapes, and colours.
  3. These fungi belong to Basidiomycota. They are edible fungi and rarely poisonous.
  4. Examples- Tremells, Auricularia, Exidia, etc.
