Are Lymphocytes granulocytes?

Granulocytes:

  1. White Blood Cells(WBC) with granules in their cytoplasm are referred to as granulocytes.
  2. They consist of digestive enzymes and other molecules like histamine, cytokines, etc. Such molecules are known as effector molecules.
  3. Helps in fighting against infections. Also, helps in generating allergic responses.
  4. Examples- Basophils, Eosinophils, Neutrophils, & Mast cells.

Lymphocytes:

  1. These types of WBC are present in the blood and lymph of our body. They make up around 18-40% of total WBCs in the blood.
  2. They lack granules in their cytoplasm. They have a kidney-shaped purple-colored staining nucleus.
  3. They generally secrete antibodies that are highly specific for pathogens and toxins.
  4. Examples- B-cell and T-cells.
