  1. They are microscopic protrusions of the cellular membrane.
  2. They are present on the surface of the small intestine.
  3. They increase the surface area and hence absorption.
  4. They can also be seen on the plasma surface of eggs, and the apical surface of some epithelial cells.
  5. Microvilli are absent in the plant cells.
