Sponges:

  1. Multicellular animals belong to the phylum Porifera.
  2. They possess bodies full of pores and channels (water circulates through them).
  3. They are found in ponds, streams, lakes, etc.

Nematocysts:

  1. These are minute, elongated, or spherical capsule produced exclusively by members of the phylum Cnidaria.
  2. They are mainly used for defence and prey capture. Also, sometimes for locomotion.
  3. Examples- jellyfish, corals, sea anemones, etc.
  4. Therefore, nematocysts are not found in sponges.
