Open in App
Solution

Spinal cord:

  1. A long tube-like band of tissue.
  2. It carries nerve signals from the brain to other body organs and vice versa.

Nerve cord:

  1. It is a hollow tube of nervous tissue. It constitutes the central nervous system of chordates & develops into the spinal cord and brain in vertebrates.
  2. In chordates, the dorsal nerve cord is present in the embryonic stage.
  3. This develops in the brain and spinal cord.
  4. In Invertebrates (earthworms & insects), the nerve cord is present along the body length.
  5. Therefore, it can be said that the nerve cord & spinal cord are not the same.
