Symbiosis:

  1. It is a relationship between two different organisms that usually share a habitat.
  2. It is of 3 types: Mutualism, Commensalism, and parasitism.
  3. Examples- coral & algae, Lactobacillus & humans, etc.

Nitrogen-fixing microbes:

  1. Organisms that fix atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia or other nitrogenous compounds.
  2. They can be free-living or symbiotic.
  3. Examples of free-living nitrogen-fixing microbes are Azotobacter, Rhodospirillum, cyanobacteria, etc.
  4. An example of a symbiotic nitrogen-fixing microbe is Rhizobium (with leguminous plants).
