2. They have been placed in the kingdom of Monera.
3. The kingdom Monera includes all the bacteria, i.e., Archaea (Archaebacteria) and Bacteria (Eubacteria).
4. Examples of prokaryotes- are bacteria, archaea, and cyanobacteria.

Archaea:

1. Unicellular organisms with properties that distinguish them from Bacteria & Eukaryota.
2. One group of archaea (phototrophs) uses sunlight as an energy source.
3. Other groups use inorganic compounds(sulfur, ammonia, etc.) as their energy source.
4. They include anaerobic methane oxidizers, methanogens, & nitrifiers.

Bacteria:

1. Single-celled prokaryotic organisms that live in a diverse habitat & lack membrane-bound organelles.
2. They are known to carry plasmids(circular DNA).
3. Plasmids carry genes that provide bacteria with resistance to various antibiotic resistance.
4. Example- Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus pneumoniae, etc.
