Are protists decomposers?
Open in App
Solution
Decomposers:
They are microorganisms that digest dead and decaying matter.
The decaying matter is further converted into humus (organic matter in soil).
Examples- Bacteria and fungi
Protists:
They are simple, unicellular eukaryotic organisms.
They are neither plants nor animals or fungi.
Examples- algae, plasmodium, euglena, amoebas, slime molds, etc.
Protists are either autotrophs (prepare their own food) or heterotrophs (obtain nutrition from other organisms).
However, some fungi-like protists such as slime molds and water molds are decomposers.
