Protochordate:

  1. It is an informal category of animals.
  2. They are used for invertebrates that are closely related to vertebrates.
  3. Therefore, also known as lower chordates.
  4. They do have a notochord.
  5. They comprise the subphylum Urochordata and Cephalochordata under the phylum Chordata.

Hemichordate:

  1. Organisms belonging to the phylum Hemichordata.
  2. They have only some characteristics of Chordates while lacking others.
  3. They do not have a true notochord.
  4. Example- Blanoglossus
  5. Therefore, protochordate & hemichordates are not the same.
