The correct option is C maintain a constant phase
At the water (or cytoplasm) to guanine interface, there is a half-cycle phase shift for the reflected light, but there is not one at the guanine to cytoplasm interface. Therefore there will always be one halfcycle phase difference between two neighboring reflected beams, just due to the reflections.
