Sponges are hermaphrodites (having both sexes) of the phylum Porifera and usually reproduce sexually by producing gametes.
They sometimes reproduce asexually by forming buds or gemmules.
These gemmules give rise to a genetic copy of their parent.
Thus, sponges can undergo both sexual and asexual reproduction.
