Question

Are stomata open during night time? If yes, then how the diffusion of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place in and out during respiration at night?

Solution

In some plants, such as desert plants, stomata opens during the night time and take in carbon-dioxide and then get closed. Then during day time, stomata do not open and the carbon-dioxide stored during the night time is used for photosynthesis during the day to release oxygen. This is an adaptation for desert plants to prevent the loss of water during the day.
