Dear Student.
Sugar is a non-ionic compound; it does not dissolve into ions when added to water. Additionally, sugar tends not to release H or OH ions when it dissolves in water, so it does not alter the acidic or alkaline properties of the solution.
Sugar is a pH-neutral substance, meaning that its pH value is usually more or less than 7, but close. However, raw and unprocessed sugar is slightly basic in nature, while white sugar and brown sugar are both slightly acidic.
