Question

Are the effects of adding heat reversible?

Open in App
Solution

Explanation:

The effects of adding heat are irreversible. In thermodynamics, a change in the state of a system and all of its surroundings cannot be precisely restored to its initial state by infinitesimal changes in some properties of the system is called an irreversible process.

Example:

1. Suppose, we heat the mutton to cook it. The cooked mutton can't be changed back to its original condition after heating.

2. Fuel consumption where once fuel gets converted into energy, the process cannot be reversed to get back the fuel.

Hence, the effects of adding heat are irreversible.
