They are,
  • Cell theory does not explain the nature of a Virus.
  • It states that they become alive and multiply even though they are made up of non-living material.
  • Cell theory does not throw light on how the first living cell originated or how life on earth began.
  • The exceptions are Mitochondria and chloroplasts. They have their own genetic material and can reproduce independently.
