Question

Are there memory T cells?

Open in App
Solution

T cells

  1. T cells or T lymphocytes are a crucial part of the immune system.
  2. They are produced in the bone marrow and matured in the thymus.
  3. These T lymphocytes regulate the cell-mediated immune response which is a type of adaptive immunity.
  4. There are memory T cells present in the body.
  5. These cells are formed after a pathogenic infection.
  6. After an infection is subsided from the body some T cells differentiate into memory T cells.
  7. When the same pathogen infects the body again, these memory T cells activate the effector T cell causing a more rapid and aggressive immune response against the pathogen.
  8. The memory T cell also activates other immunological factors and B lymphocytes to fight the infection.
