Question

Are urethral and bulbo urethral glands same?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Bulbourethral glands are also known as cowpers gland and are found in the male reproductive system. These secrete mucus and alkaline fluid into the urethra. The mucus lubricates the urethra for smooth passage of spermatozoa and the alkaline fluid neutralises the acidity of any remaining urine present in the urethra.

Bulbourethral gland is not same as urethral gland. Urethral glands are the glands located in the walls of the urethra of male responsible for the secretion of the mucus.

Urethral gland is also known as periurethral gland.
