Question

are Young's modulus and the modulus of elasticity the same terms ?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Both modulus of elasticity and youngs modulus are same

The modulus of elasticity (also known as the elastic modulus, the tensile modulus, or Young's modulus) is a number that measures an object or substance's resistance to being deformed elastically (i.e., non-permanently) when a force is applied to it.

And in another words Young's modulus measures the resistance of a material to elastic (recoverable) deformation under load.

And a stiff material has a high Young's modulus and changes its shape only slightly under elastic loads (e.g. diamond). A flexible material has a low Young's modulus and changes its shape considerably (e.g. rubbers).
