Decompose the given figure down into known shapes
and known measurements.


For the red and green colored triangle:
Base = 2 units; Height = 4 units

For the blue colored triangle:
Base = 3 units; Height = 6 units

For the yellow colored rectangle:
Length = 3 units
Width = 4 units.

Area of a triangle=12×base×height

Area of a rectangle = length × width

So,
Area of red colored triangle = Area of green colored triangle
=12×2×4 sq units
= 4 sq inches

Area of blue colored triangle=12×6×3
= 9 sq units

Area of the yellow colored rectangle
is: =4×3 sq units
= 12 sq units

Total area of the given figure:
= Area of red colored triangle + Area of green colored triangle + Area of blue colored triangle + Area of yellow colored rectangle
