Divide the trapezoid into known shapes such as triangles and rectangles whose dimensions can be determined by looking at the given shape.

Area of a rectangle = length × width
Area of a triangle=12×base×height


So, the figure ABCD is divided into triangle ADE and rectangle ABCD.

In △ADE:
Base = 2 ft
Height = 3 ft.

Area of triangle ADE=12×2×3
= 3 sq ft

In rectangle ABCE:
Length = 3 ft
Width = 4 ft

∴ Area of rectangle ABCE = 4 ft × 3 ft
