Question

Arrange ethane, ethene and ethyne in the increasing order of reactivity

Open in App
Solution

Ethane is a saturated alkane . Ethene and ethyne are unsaturated compounds . Ethyne is the most reactive compound and ethane is the least reactive. Ethane does not undergo addition reaction. But ethene and ethyne undergo addition reactions due to the presence of large electron clouds over them increasing the energy of the molecule. The increasing order of reactivity is :
Ethane < Ethene < Ethyne
