Question

Arrange solids, liquids and gases in order of increasing intermolecular space.

_______ ________ ________

Open in App
Solution

  1. Greater the intermolecular force, the smaller the intermolecular space.
  2. Because the intermolecular forces are strongest in solids, strong in liquids, and weakest in gases so the intermolecular space between them is largest in gases, moderate in liquids, and smallest in solids.

Hence the intermolecular space varies as solids< liquids<gases.
