Solution

Definition of the molecular formula:

The total of the atomic weight values of the atoms in a molecule is called molecular weight.

Methane(CH4) has 1 Carbon(C) atom and 4 Hydrogen(H) atoms in it

(1×12)+(4×1)=16g

Ethane(C2H6) has 2 Carbon(C) atom and 6 Hydrogen(H) atoms in it

(2×12)+(6×1)=30g

Ethene(CH2=CH2) has 2 Carbon(C) atom and 4 Hydrogen(H) atoms in it

(2×12)+(4×1)=28g

Ethyne(CHCH) has 2 Carbon(C) atom and 2 Hydrogen(H) atoms in it

(2×12)+(2×1)=26g

Therefore, the increasing order of the molecular weight of the given compounds is as follows.

Methane<Ethyne<Ethene<Ethane
