The Karnataka region was ruled by the powerful Vijayanagara Empire between the fourteenth century and the seventeenth century. After its decline, the Wodeyars got some parts of the kingdom. In the eighteenth century, Tipu Sultan ruled in Mysuru. After his death, the region was divided into twenty different regions. Some parts were ruled by the Marathas, Peshwas, British, and some by the Nizam of Hyderabad. The state of Karnataka was finally formed following the Karnataka Integration Movement.
