Solution

The correct option is C

1 3 4 2

Phase transition- This transition occurs when a substance changes from a solid, liquid or gas state to a different state.

Ice(0oC)water(0°C)water(50oC)water(0°C)ice(0oC)

Here, in this order;-

  1. ice(0°C)water(0°C), ice absorbed the heat from the atmosphere due to which the potential energy of the system increased but kinetic energy remains constant at that time. So, potential energy increases and kinetic energy remains constant when ice is converted into water.
  2. water(0°C)water(50°C), the temperature of the water increase due to which there is an increase in kinetic as well as potential energy. So, potential energy increases and kinetic energy increases when water increases its temperature.
  3. water(50°C)water(0°C), on cooling, the temperature of the water decreases resulting in a decrease in kinetic and potential energy. potential energy decreases and kinetic energy decreases when water decreases its temperature.
  4. water(0°C)ice(0°C), the heat is released when water changes to ice due to which the potential energy decreases and kinetic energy remains constant. So, potential energy decreases and kinetic energy remains constant when water is converted into ice.

Hence, The correct sequence for the order is (1342).
