Question

arrange the following in increasing order of atomic radii
O ,Na ,Cl ,Li

Open in App
Solution

Dear User,
Li and Na belongs to group 1 and so will have large atomic radius. Among them Na will be much bigger as it belongs to next period and radius increases down the group. O belongs to the same period as that of Li but in group 16 and radius decreases along a period so O will have smaller radii than Li. Cl belongs to the next period so Li and O will have smaller radii than Cl. Cl will have smaller radii than Na as they both belongs to the same period but different group. Therefore, the order is:
O<Li<Cl<Na
