a) Anion is larger than the corresponding neutral atom as electron is added due to which repulsion increases. Hence, it size increases. The order is Cl>Cl [1 mark]

b) Cation is smaller than the corresponding neutral atom as electron is removed which is far away from the nucleus. The order is Mg > Mg+ > Mg+2 [1 mark]

(c) Atomic size decreases across the period (due to increase in effective nuclear charge) and increases down the group (due to addition of new shells). The order is P > N > O. [1 mark]
