Stars of mass greater than about 25 times that of the Sun, increase in size rapidly, as they run out of their fuel components like hydrogen and helium. This makes the star swell to a size of about 100-200 times their original size, in which stage it is called a super red giant. The super red giant star eventually explodes violently spewing out all its components. This brilliant explosion can be seen from galaxies across, and is called a supernova. After many thousands of years, the supernova disintegrates leaving behind a bottomless cavity of a celestial object called a black hole.
