The first stage tuber growth begins with the development of the buds from the eyes (nodes) of the parent potato. Buds give rise to an aerial shoot. Leaves and branches of the shoot develops aboveground while its roots and stolons develop underground. In the third stage, tubers start growing from the tip of the stolons. They absorb water, nutrients and minerals from the soil and start developing and expanding.
