Solution

The steps involved in water treatment process are given below.
  • The water to be treated flows from the reservoir into the sedimentation tank which allows heavy, solid particles present in water to settle down.
  • Lighter impurities that are suspended in the water are further allowed to settle down in the loading tank.
  • The remaining impurities are removed in the filtration tank. The impurities are trapped between the gravel, coarse gravel, and fine sand layers present in the tank.
  • The water from this tank is moved to the chlorination tank, where chlorine gas is passed through the water to kill the bacteria.
  • From chlorination tank the treated water is transported to homes.
