Arrange the following substances in the increasing order of the forces of attraction between their particles:
Chocolate syrup, Chalk, Carbon dioxide, Iron rod
Matter is made up of tiny particles. These particles of matter attract each other.
Forces of attraction between solid particles is greater than those in liquid particles. Also, the forces of attraction between liquid particles is greater than those in gaseous particles.
Iron rod and chalk are solids, chocolate syrup is a liquid while carbon dioxide is a gas.
Among the two solids, chalk and iron rod; the interparticle forces are much stronger in iron rod as compared to those in chalk since its much difficult to break iron rod as compared to chalk.
Thus, the correct order of increasing forces of attraction between the particles would be:
Carbon dioxide < Chocolate syrup < Chalk < Iron rod
