Solution

Step 1 : Given data

Here, the given fractions are 34, 720, 915, 1430. Since the denominator of all the fractions is not same, therefore the given fractions are unlike fractions. The unlike fractions are compared by converting them into like fractions. They are converted into like fractions by taking their equivalent forms with denominator as the LCM of denominators of unlike fractions.

Two or more fractions are said to be like fractions if they have same denominator. For like fraction, the fraction with greater numerator is greater.

Here, the LCM of denominators i.e. 4, 20, 15 and 30 is 60. Therefore, the equivalent forms of 34, 720, 915, 1430 must have denominator 60.

Step 2 : Finding the equivalent fractions

Equivalent fraction of 34 :

To obtain an equivalent form of 34 with denominator 60, we have

34=3×154×15=4560 [Multiplying numerator and denominator by 15]

Equivalent fraction of 720.

To obtain an equivalent form of 720 with denominator 60, we have

720=7×320×3=2160 [Multiplying numerator and denominator by 3]

Equivalent fraction of 915.

To obtain an equivalent form of 915 with denominator 60, we have

915=9×415×4=3660 [Multiplying numerator and denominator by 4]

Equivalent fraction of 1430.

To obtain an equivalent form of 1430 with denominator 60, we have

1430=14×230×2=2860 [Multiplying numerator and denominator by 2 ]

Step 3 : Arranging the fractions in ascending order

From the above steps the equivalent fractions for 34, 720, 915, 1430 are 4560, 2160, 3660 and 2860 respectively.

Since, all the fractions now have same denominator, therefore, the fraction with greater numerator is greater. i.e., 21<28<36<45

So, 2160<2860<3660<4560

Hence, fractions in asending order 720, 1430,915, 34.
