Ingested food travels from the mouth through the oesophagus into the stomach. In the stomach, it is partially digested. Then it enters the small intestine where the food gets completely digested and nutrients are absorbed into the blood.

From the small intestine, the food enters the large intestine where water absorption takes place and the remaining food is egested out.
