To show that sunlight is essential for photosynthesis to occur: A potted plant is destarched. Part of a leaf in this plant is covered with a strip of black paper and placed in the sun. After a few hours, a starch test is performed on this leaf. It is observed that only the parts of the leaf that were exposed to the sun turns blue-black. This indicates that sunlight is responsible for the production of starch.
