Arun needed to measure the area of a cardboard required to create his craft project. The shape he needed is displayed in the figure below. Which of the following could be used by him to determine the area of this flower-shaped figure?
A graph paper is a paper that has squares of unit area (1 cm2) drawn all over it. Most simple usage of this paper can be made to measure the area of irregular figures like the one shown in the question. Since the area of one square is 1 cm2, hence the area of the whole figure is determined by the number of squares covered under it. Now since the figure is irregular, it won't cover every square fully. The half covered squares are counted separately and then their number is halved. This type of determination of area is not the most accurate but gives a good idea of the area of the figures.
