$\frac{3}{8}$

Fraction of book read by Arun = $\frac{3}{8} + \frac{1}{4}$ $= \frac{3}{8} + \frac{1 \times 2}{4 \times 2} (LCM of 8 and 4 is 8) = \frac{3 + 2}{8} = \frac{5}{8}$
$∴$ Fraction of book remaining will be
$= 1 - \frac{5}{8} = \frac{8 - 5}{8} = \frac{3}{8}$
