As known to us hydrogen has only one electron

So to make an ion it would give electron or take electron

Solution

Since hydrogen has only 1 eletron, it can either lose it or gain one more electron to become stable.

Usually hydrogen loses one electron and forms +vely charged hydronium cation (H+).

In rare cases it also gains an electron to form hydride anion 6(H-).
