Solution

Weight of a body on the Earth is given by:

W = mg

Where,

m is the mass of the body.

g is the acceleration due to gravity.

As we know that acceleration due to gravity is given by,

The radius of the Earth decreases as we move from the equator to the poles. The Earth is not a perfect sphere, it is flattened at the poles and bulges out at the equator. Therefore, from the above formula, we can see that the value of acceleration due to gravity decreases as we move from poles to the equator.

Therefore, silver at the equator weighs less than at the poles. Hence, Rahul’s friend will not agree with the weight of the silver bought.
