Question

As we all know the earth's gravitational force attract all the objects towards it at the speed of 9.8m/s. But if we fall from a great height, let consider that we jump from an aeroplane. As we jump our speed is low but as we get closer to the earth's surface our speed starts increasing. Why this happen?

Solution

As we know ,
when we jump out of the plane we have high potential energy due to height
as we fall down, potential energy decreases due to decrease in height.
energy canot be created or destroyed, therefore potential energy is transferred or converted to kinetic energy.

therefore kinetic energy increases as we fall down, hence speed increases
