$t_{1} = \frac{d}{s}$
$= \frac{6 k m}{n k m / h r} = \frac{6}{x} h r$
$t_{2} = \frac{6 k m}{(x + 2) k m / h r} = \frac{6}{x + 2}$ hr
$t_{1} + t_{2} = 2.5$ hr $= \frac{6}{x} + \frac{6}{x + 2}$
$\frac{6}{x} + \frac{6}{x + 2} = \frac{5}{2}$
$\frac{6 (2 x + 2)}{x^{2} + 2 x} = \frac{5}{2}$
$24 x + 24 = 5 x^{2} + 10 x$
$5 x^{2} - 14 x - 24 = 0$
$(5 x + 6) (x - 4) = 0$
$x = 4$ km/hr.
