First we count the number of notes of maximum amount, i.e. Rs. 2000.
2000 × 5 = 10000
So, the remaining amount to pay = 10,300 - 10,000 = Rs 300.

Next we take the number of notes of next biggest amount smaller than the leftover, i.e. Rs 300.
200 × 1 = 200
So, the remaining amount to pay = 300 - 200 = Rs. 100

Next we take the number of notes of next biggest amount smaller than the leftover, i.e. Rs. 100
100 × 1 = 100
So, total number of notes = 5 + 1 + 1 = 7.
