The term 'enzyme' was the coined by Kuhne in 1878. Enzymes may be simple or conjugated enzymes are made up of two parts, i.e. apoenzymes (protein part of an enzyme) and cofactor (non-protein part of an enzyme) together they form a holoenzyme. When cofactor is an organic molecule and loosely attached with protein part, it is called coenzyme. If the cofactor is firmly bound, it is called prosthetic group.
