Question

Assertion :A ball of mass m is released from the top of a smooth inclined plane. At the same time another ball of same mass allowed to fall freely from same height. When both balls reaches the bottom of the plane, momentum will not be equal. Reason: Momentum depends on the direction of velocity as well as its magnitude.

Solution

The correct option is A Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
When two bodies are left to be in motion under gravity from a certain height

They gains the same vertical speed on the surface,

But in case of inclined fall the direction of net velocity is at an angle equal to inclination angle with the ground.

As the direction of net speed is different in both cases,

Momentum can't be equal,

As momentum is comprised of speed cum direction.

Option A is the correct answer.
