Solution

The correct option is C Assertion is true but the reason is false
A fertiliser is of either natural or synthetic origin that is applied to the soil to supply one or more plant nutrients essential to the growth of plants.

The Green Revolution in the mid-1960s introduced the use of agrochemicals, i.e., chemical fertilisers and pesticides for increasing crop yield. Increasing use of chemical fertilisers over the years has resulted in degradation of the environment. This is because these toxic chemicals pollute the soil and groundwater by changing the natural composition of the soil, creating pH and nutrient imbalance. They may accumulate on the crops and enter the food chain.

Hence, these chemical fertilisers are replaced by biofertilizers nowadays. Biofertilizers refer to microorganisms such as bacteria, cyanobacteria, or fungi etc. which can be used in agriculture fields for the increase in crop production. These organisms enrich the nutrient quality of the soil. These are eco-friendly and do not cause adverse effects in the environment.

Hence, assertion is true but reason is false.
