The olfactory cells which occur in the olfactory epithelium can smell as well as taste the food. During cold the concentration of mucus around the olfactory receptors increases to more than usual. Due to which the aroma cannot reach the receptors and hence brain cannot process it. Therefore, making the food taste bland.
