Question

Assertion (A): lf the direction ratios of a line are (6,2,3) then the angles made by the line with coordinate axes are cos1(67),cos1(27),cos1(37).

Reason (R): The d.c's of a line ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯OP are (xr,yr,zr), where |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯OP|=r and p=(x,y,z).

Solution

The correct option is A Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A

Given r=6^i+2^j+3^k=x^i+y^j+z^k

r=62+22+32=7

Let α,β,γ be angle made with x,y,z axis

cosα=r.^iri=67=xr

cosβ=r.^jrj=27=yr

cosγ=r.^krk=37=zr

Hence, Assertion is true

DC's of OP are (xr,yr,zr)=(cosα,cosβ,cosγ)

Assertion and reason are true.
