Question

Assertion :A man carrying a bucket of water and walking on a rough level road with a uniform velocity does no work while carrying the bucket. Reason: The work is done on a body by a force (F) in giving it a displacement S is defined as W=F.S=FScosθ where θ is the angle between vectors F and S.

Solution

The correct option is A Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
In the assertion, we can see that the man is applying force in vertically upward direction in carrying the bucket but his displacement is in horizontal direction. This makes the angle between force and displacement 90o which makes the cosθ=0
Thus the work done will be 0.
Also, frictional force will not do any work as the man has a uniform velocity.
Hence, the assertion is correct
The Reason is the mathematical explanation of the work done and it is also true.

Hence, correct answer is option A
