Manure is the decomposed form of dead plants and animals, which is applied to the soil to increase production. The human and animal excreta is also used as manure. These do not cause any pollution.

Chemical fertilisers contain phosphates and nitrates. When it rains, these nutrients are carried by storm-water into the nearest stream, river, or other water body causing water pollution.
