Assertion :A mixture of oxygen and ethane can not be burnt for welding. Reason: Combustion of ethane in air produces a yellow flame with black smoke due to the presence of unburnt carbon in it. Due to this incomplete combustion heat produced is also low and a high temperature usually needed for welding cannot be attained.

A mixture of oxygen and ethane is not used in welding rather a mixture of ethyne and oxygen is taken because ethyne is able to produce the hottest flame.

The reason is also correct because of the insufficient amount of oxygen present in the air causes incomplete combustion of ethane in the air giving a yellow flame with black smoke.
