Question

Assertion :A neuron chemically communicates with a myocyte by releasing acetylcholine into the myoneural junction. Reason: Acetylcholine diffuses across the nerve-muscle synaptic-cleft and binds to receptors on the sarcolemma which gets depolarized.

Solution

The correct option is A Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
The connection between the nerve terminal and muscle fiber is known as the neuromuscular junction. This junction contains a gap called synaptic cleft. The neurotransmitter Acetylcholine is released into the synaptic cleft by the nerve terminal as they are cholinergic nerves. Acetylcholine passes through the gap and binds to receptors on the sarcolemma. This helps in opening of Na+ ion channels. As a result, Na+ concentration in the sarcoplasm increases starts depolarising the membrane.
So, the correct option is A.
